Handcrafted silver jewelry by Debbie Ritchie
Artist's Statement
I picked up my first torch about 10 years ago and found myself irresistibly drawn into the world of silversmithing. This is an evolution I expect to last the rest of my life. There is so much to learn and it is all so fascinating.
The silver jewelry I create can be described as feminine and having movement. All my pieces are custom handmade by myself starting from sterling silver sheet and wire. I am currently exploring the use of copper and gold as well. I find inspiration in the colours of the many semi-precious gemstones available to me. Each of my pieces is handmade individually in my studio on Galiano Island. Due to the nature of the oneness of the stones I use, many pieces are one-of-a-kind and cannot be reproduced exactly the same. Each piece I create becomes a favourite and I don't feel I will be able to part with it. But then, the next new "favourite" is right around the corner and so it goes. !
